“Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.” – Oscar Wilde
How many times have you held your tongue for fear of being challenged or even rejected? There are moments when we are in connection with someone and we cannot bring ourselves to say what is on our minds. There are celebrities now who are severely ridiculed for speaking their minds in public. Or they are chastised when they act out in front of paparazzi!
Even crimes are solved by anonymous tips! How many would tell a friend their spouse is cheating on them? Would you even tell a stranger their “fly” is open?
I have a friend who speaks the truth in a way that many may perceive as brutal. Although her words often sting I always appreciate the honesty. She is one person who I know I can count on to tell me the Truth no matter what.
Until we learn to tell the truth, we as a people will suffer. We can no longer hide behind masks. Step up, be heard and seen. When we do we will triumph as a people. Our true authentic selves will shine light on an otherwise dark planet.
