What to Expect During a Reiki Session
If you’re curious about Reiki, one of the most common questions is:
What does Reiki feel like?
The honest answer is — it depends.
Reiki is not dramatic.
It is not overwhelming.
It is not something that happens to you.
Reiki is experienced as a shift — often subtle, sometimes profound — into deeper regulation and rest.
For most people, Reiki feels calming, grounding, and quietly restorative.

Common Sensations During Reiki
While every person’s experience is unique, many people report feeling:
• Gentle warmth where hands are placed
• Tingling or light pulsing sensations
• A sense of heaviness or grounding
• Emotional softening or unexpected release
• Floating or drifting into a half-dream state
• Deep relaxation — sometimes falling asleep
Some clients feel energy moving clearly through their body.
Others feel very little physically — and still notice meaningful shifts afterward.
Reiki does not depend on sensation to be effective.
It works through regulation, not intensity.
What Happens in the Body During Reiki?
Reiki supports the nervous system in shifting out of stress and into regulation.
When the body feels safe:
- Breathing slows
- Muscles release
- Heart rate steadies
- Mental chatter quiets
This is the parasympathetic response — the body’s natural “rest and restore” state.
From this regulated state, healing becomes possible.
Reiki does not force change.
It creates conditions where change can occur organically.
Reiki supports nervous system regulation, which you can explore further here → Reiki and the Nervous System
In-Person vs. Distance Reiki: Is It Different?
Many people are surprised to learn that distance Reiki can feel just as strong — and sometimes stronger — than in-person sessions.
When clients receive Reiki at a distance, they are often in their own space, already comfortable and relaxed. That familiarity can deepen the experience.
Energy is not limited by physical proximity.
What matters most is presence and intention.
After more than 15 years of practice, I’ve seen powerful, grounded experiences happen both in person and remotely.
Both are valid.
Both are effective.
Why Everyone’s Experience Is Different
Reiki meets you where you are.
If you are highly stressed or burned out, you may feel immediate softening.
If you are already fairly regulated, the experience may feel subtle — with clarity or emotional integration unfolding over the following days.
Reiki respects your system.
It does not override your body’s wisdom.
It works with it.
My Approach to the Reiki Experience
As a Reiki Master Teacher with over 15 years of practice, my sessions focus on safety, presence, and internal alignment.
I do not aim to create dramatic experiences.
I aim to support coherence — a regulated relationship between body, mind, and energy.
Sometimes that feels warm and expansive.
Sometimes it feels quiet and steady.
Sometimes it feels like nothing more than the deepest rest you’ve had in months.
All of it is valid.
What If I Don’t Feel Anything?
This is one of the most common concerns.
If you don’t feel strong sensations during Reiki, it does not mean it isn’t working.
Reiki is not measured by intensity.
It is measured by integration.
Often, clients notice shifts later:
- Improved sleep
- Clearer decision-making
- Reduced reactivity
- A sense of emotional steadiness
Reiki supports regulation first. The effects unfold naturally from there.
